Coccorino, Our home Jan2009-Sept2009

The Biggest Move. Ever.
A picture of my hammock. I simply loved having a hammock under palm-trees in our garden. Not that I could lay there very much, birds love Palm-trees too, and sometimes getting shat on was a close call... But Oh, how I loved having a hammock in the garden. =)

For me, Italy was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. What an amazing place to be, eat, sleep and breathe.

It is really about time I post some pictures from our lovely life in Italy.

<----- the view from our garden in Coccorino.
On this picture, you see Cape Vaticano, Grotticelle, and Santa Maria. Behind the bushes is Coccorino mare.

When we met in October 2008 in Oslo, Chris and I both felt that Oslo was not the right place to be, so we packed the Opel Astra station-wagon with dogs (Alba and L8) and computers and clothes... and left for Calabria December 28th 2008. Non of us had been there before, we just knew we wanted to start fresh. So we did.

I wish we could see Stromboli which is the biggest volcanic island near by. Its not rare to see a lot of smoke coming out of it. It last major eruption was April 13, 2009.
<---- Grotticelle before the tourists arrived for the summer. The place turns into a holiday paradise and the beaches are carpeted with germans and italians. I have to say, I love the months before they arrive better... Me, Alba and L8. =)

-MAYIAH-
In March (7th to be exact) we went to the Canile Municipale (Stray dog shelter) in Vibo Valentia and got ourselves a little puppy we named, Mayiah. The first 3 weeks she was very ill and got blind and almost died. However, love and proper nutrition got her well and strong. Now she is 1.5 years old and a happy little wolf-looking dog.
In the last picture she is eating a biscotti. -Which was Mayiah's favorite as a puppy.

The cat, Mika, we found at Cape Vaticano -and we brought her home with us for 3 weeks.
She was quite skinny when she came, and quite chunky when she left. It was terribly sad to let her go. but she is a wild cat -and we were afraid she would try to walk back home in the traffic.
She had the best weeks in her life tho -a nice soft bed and as much food as she could eat.

At one point during winter 2009 came snow for the first time in over 25 years.
I have to say that leaving Oslo, fully covered in snow, and arriving south Italy, with no snow, it was quite fascinating to see the whole place covered in snow all of the sudden.

We spent a lot of time climbing during spring 2009. We had some really wonderful climbs and walks around in the areas close by. We climbed from Al Mare, Coccorino, to Santa Maria, which was a fantastic climb. Challenges for me, seeing how I haven't climbed much in my life... after a few months there, I simply loved it. We also had some wonderful trips to different places near by, in Nicotera and Joppolo. The exploring nature of us both had us gone for hours at the time, just walking the dogs, playing, climbing and enjoying the amazing beauty of Calabria.

We have so many amazing memories from those months and life was absolutely wonderful in Italy. Eating lots of Gelatto, lots of Pizza and pasta, fresh vegetables from the garden, Olives from our neighbours olive trees, fresh olive oil, unlimited amounts of chili and lemons in the spring time, and unlimited amounts of sun and heat during summer.
The surroundings was just so breathtaking -I especially love Belvedere, next to Cape Vaticano, where the view is absolutely stunning. (And the gelatto and people of Il tempio dei Nettuno was simply just the best bonus there was)
